Our Story

How it all started...

In late November of 1964, God placed the idea of Community Christian Church in the hearts of about fifteen local believers. At the time, the United Brethren Church and contents at the corner of Ash and Walnut Streets in Nevada was for sale.

The assets of the building, built in 1904, were obvious: beautiful stained glass windows, amphitheater shaped seating arrangements, and a wraparound balcony, to name a few. Liabilities were numerous, too: a sagging ceiling, cracking plaster, and noisy heating units. After prayerful consideration the ambitious seekers decided to pursue the purchase.

Though the bank was initially skeptical, five men signed as trustees and the group was able to obtain the $13,500 necessary to buy the building. Community Christian of Nevada officially became a church in January, 1965, with twenty-nine charter members.

Time has brought many changes to the church. In 1976 an educational unit was built. Another purchase added a parking lot west of the building. Members have come and gone and programs have been added and reorganized.

One thing has never changes, though. The same God who directed fifteen ambitious believers in 1964, leads Community Christian Church today. The same emphasis on Bible study, prayer and evangelism is obvious.

“Saving the lost and growing the saved,” is the church’s mission statement. Community Christian Church offers a place to celebrate your faith, share a sense of community and fulfill Christ’s great commission.

Where we are headed...

Here at Community Christian Church we are headed to a closer, more intimate and authentic relationship with Jesus and each other as brothers and sisters in Christ.  Our goal is to be about IT and IT only.  IT is the only two things that matter...Salvation and Discipleship.  We invite you to join us as we embark on a journey of growing in Christ together as one body in Him and Him alone.
