What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Community Christian Church based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

The Bible

We believe in the inerrancy of the scriptures; that the word of God is the will of God.
We believe that we should speak, preach and teach where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent.
We believe that the Bible is the ultimate authority on earth until the Lord Jesus returns and cannot be contradicted by human opinion or 'revelation'.

God

We believe God is omniscient.  (ALL knowing)
We believe God is omnipresent.  (Present everywhere at the same time)
We believe God is omnipotent.  (ALL powerful).
We believe that God (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) are uncreated and everything else, spiritual and physical, is created.

Mankind

We believe God created Adam and Eve; male and female.
We believe that man is created in the image of God; a 'trichotomy'; a body, a spirit and a soul.
We believe that Adam and Eve were created without sin
We believe that, when Adam and Eve sinned, sin entered the world and, as a result, man's physical life became finite from then on down to every generation of man, flesh and blood, born thereafter.
We believe that man, unless he/she takes hold of the salvation offered in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, will eternally perish.

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.

Salvation

We believe that God the Son became the Son of man in the flesh, lived a sinless life which qualified Him to pay the COMPLETE payment for mankind's sins; we believe there is nothing man can do to add to the completeness of the redeeming sacrifice paid by Jesus the Son of God on the cross where he freely gave up his flesh life.
We believe that any other act, belief or thought contrary to the completeness of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross represents a different gospel and is heresy.
We believe that the only way to salvation and the only way to receive the Holy Spirit is through a personal, submissive relationship with Jesus Christ.
We believe that salvation is available to anyone and everyone, regardless of race.
We believe that, while no one can take your salvation from you, you can walk away from your relationship with Jesus and have your name 'blotted out' of the book of life.

Ressurection

We believe that God the Father raised Jesus from the dead, through God the Holy Spirit, on the third day of his entombment.
We believe that the resurrection of Jesus, along with the tearing of the temple veil from the top to the bottom which occurred at Jesus' death, and the saints that came up out of their graves after Jesus was raised, is indicative of the acceptance of the death of the Son of man by God the Father as a fair and just payment of the sins of mankind, to all who "...believe in their heart and confess with their tongue..."

Baptism

We believe that, while baptism is not a requirement to be saved, it is an act of obedience to the Lord and is expected of every son or daughter of the Lord.  (We also acknowledge there are sometimes extenuating circumstances; the thief on the cross, death bead salvations, etc...)
We believe that the act of baptism is the signing of the New Covenant, replacing circumcision which was the signing of the Old Covenant.
We believe that baptism is a condition of the person's heart being baptized.  That being said, we believe it does not matter if a baptism is total immersion or sprinkled.

Communion

We believe that communion bread and communion juice are, in and of themselves, not holy but serves as a reminder for us who are believers living on the earth, to remember Jesus; who He is and what He has done for us.
We believe that, just like baptism, communion is a condition of heart and has nothing to do with the actual physical elements being used; wafers, bread, crackers, juice, actual wine are, in and of themselves, irrelevant.

Apostles

We believe the apostles are no longer with us; they served a function as part of the foundation of the true church as eyewitnesses to the earthly ministry of the Jesus the Son of man and were charged with taking the gospel of Jesus to the rest of the world.
We believe that, to help the apostles accomplish this task and give credibility and authenticity to the gospel of Jesus, these apostles were given the supernatural abilities to perform various 'signs and wonders and miracles'.
We believe that the authority of the apostles on the earth was replaced by the authority of the (rightly divided) scriptures and, as such, the scriptures remain the total authority of God's will on this earth until the Lord Jesus returns at the end of time.
We believe that anyone (individual or group) holding themselves out as a modern-day apostles is in error and not within the bounds of scripture.

The Church

*We believe that the church is the body of Christ.
*We believe that the true church consists only of those who have washed their lives in the blood of the Lamb and 'obey His commandments' as they spend their days on this earth.
We believe that many believe they are in the true body of Christ because of things they have done or given, but they are not, and will be unaware of this until the great white throne judgement.
We believe that any group of people that does not hold the gospel of Christ as the only exclusive way to salvation are heretics.
